Filling in and fleshing out the world and characters of the D-List Supervillain, 'Secrets' give the details for the behind the scenes actions in the first books. Though it doesn't introduce a new plot, I was thoroughly entertained by the humor and creativity shown my Mr. Bernheimer, and appreciated the gaps that were filled. I recommend starting from the beginning of the series, for continuity; and though I didn't do that, I still enjoyed the writer and the story so much that I went back and purchased the rest of the series.
Comic book heroes have become a favorite of mine through TV series, and this book series is one to rival Iron Man. Anyone who enjoys the comic book heroes should love Bernheimer's books.

Long Road Home by Megan Duncan
Once again stepping out of the vampire genre, Ms. Duncan has produced a young adult contemporary romance novel that is so well written that even if you aren't a fan of romance novels, you would like this one. The story is one many young people can, sadly, associate with. Written about high school students, there is minimal swearing, and for the most part, Ms. Duncan has the most entertaining use of words and phrases to describe unpleasant people and situations. Highly recommended.
Silence by J.E. Taylor
Taking a step away from the genre and age group I normally associate with J.E. Taylor, this book is a great read for all high school students, and is relevant to those of us who are older, but still remember issues from high school. The story is of Jamie, a freshman who encounters and deals with the physical and emotional cruelty that one can encounter in school. How Jamie deals with all of this places an enormous burden on her, one that will have consequences later. Really enjoyed this. Well thought out, well defined characters. Thanks, Ms. Taylor. I recommend this to anyone 15 and older.
Tempted Heart-Blackbourne Mysteries Prequel by Cate Dean
A new series from Cate Dean! Providing us all with another terrific read, Ms. Dean has created a new series that I, as a reader, am really excited about. Her characters are well thought out and her descriptions are full without putting the reader to sleep with minutiae. I am anxiously awaiting the next installment. Well done, Ms. Dean.

Art of Blending In
by Courtney Jackson
When you are a teenager, moving to a new state means: new school, new friends, new everything. When you are moving to a new state and into a newly made family, sometimes, the only thing you want to do is blend in. Sometimes, the only thing you can do is make a stand.

seeing her characters develop. Well done, Ms. Jackson.

The Fear of Letting Go
By Sarra Cannon
This is a book most can relate to in one way or another. Sarra Cannon has written a book that can be read as a stand alone, but I would suggest reading the other Fairhope books. Ms. Cannon has brought forward some of the characters from previous stories and allows the reader a glimpse of what direction their story has gone. I liked it and recommend it to others.

It's Here! J.E. Taylor writes in a way that digs the deepest emotions from me. When I'm reading her books, I'm pulled from the real world into a world of angels, demons, murder, and redemption. Sometimes, I try to read with my eyes closed, I'm so immersed in the story. This lady does not shy away from writing the icky stuff. She's amazing.

The
Ryan Chronicles - Book One: Saving Grace
When CJ Ryan's girlfriend decides
life is less complicated without him, CJ travels a destructive path into
despair, walking the line between what's right and what feels good. But what
feels good is a dangerous slope to travel, especially when Lucifer wages war
for his soul.
One wrong step and CJ could fall
into the devil's trap, becoming no better than the demons he battles.
The
Ryan Chronicles - Book Two: Raven Heart
CJ Ryan still can't remember a
thing about his past, but he is determined to have a future with Valerie.
Despite his lack of memory, he finds himself ensnared in the cutthroat world of
entertainment whether he wants it or not. The push into the spotlight shines a
harsh glare on his family and brings with it a plague of horrors that drag him
to the edge.
With the darkness of the past
threatening, CJ turns to his brother looking for answers, but when an enemy
with a psychotic history re-enters their lives, it will take more than just his
memory to save them.
The
Ryan Chronicles - Book Three: Trinity's Wrath
CJ Ryan's life seems to have
fallen into place, and while the backdrop of his Hawaiian honeymoon provides
the perfect healing elixir, the guilt of sentencing his father to an eternity
of torture at Lucifer's hands starts to intrude on his happily-ever-after.
When he and Valerie return from
Hawaii, a note from the king of hell greets him, outlining in sickening detail
his plans for CJ and those he holds dearest.
With everyone he loves on
Lucifer's hit list, CJ must start living up to the bargain he made in Heaven,
but every one of Hell's gates he closes is one less portal available for his
father's escape.

Excerpt
from book 1:
She smiled and I
felt a need stir inside me, and it had nothing to do with my heart, or soul,
for that matter.
“You really let
a demon tie you up?” Dimples appeared in her cheeks and mine bloomed with heat.
I shifted,
focusing back on the darkness beyond the glass, suddenly uncomfortable and
unable to look at her. I swear my face must be the shade of a bright red
kickball. “I wasn’t exactly myself,” I said without looking at her.
She chuckled.
The kind of
chuckle that was meant as a turn on and I slid my gaze to her. “You like your
men tied up?” I raised an eyebrow. It was her turn to blush and she grinned,
shrugging and looking back outside. Before I could explore more of this conversation,
she took a step back, dragging me with her.
There must have
been a dozen pale creatures slinking across the back yard. I gave her hand that
gripped my upper arm a gentle pat and she turned her frightened gaze to me.
“They won’t get
through.” My voice held confidence, but deep inside, I was trembling just as
much as she was. Damian, Steve, and I had wiped out more than this at the cove,
but that was three of us and of course Paradise Cove probably had a lot to do
with it.
We both focused
on the approaching horde and without much thought, I slung my arm around
Valerie’s shoulder and pulled her close. It was time to concentrate on the
deadly quality of the wall I put up. I wasn’t sure of how much sizzle to put
into it.
“I want to see
them burn,” Valerie said, answering my silent contemplation and a chill ran up
my spine.
She had every
right to hate these creatures as much as demons and I concentrated, glaring at
the approaching danger. Saliva ran from their lips and their teeth gleamed in
the moonlight. My heart pounded in my chest, sending throbbing vibrations
through my skin. The harder my heart beat, the hungrier the approaching
vampires looked.
“Just a few more
feet,” I muttered, focusing on the entire perimeter of the house because I
wasn’t as much of an idiot as they thought. This wasn’t the only line of
assault. Still, when they advanced, I took a cautious step backwards, pulling
Valerie with me. The power inside me grew and I couldn’t tell whether it was
the adrenaline or the power raking across my skin like a hundred finely
manicured nails. The sensation grew, moving from the land of pleasure into the
world of discomfort and I gritted my teeth.
“Come on, you
motherfuckers,” I growled, loud enough for their acute hearing to pick up. I
moved Valerie behind me and positioned myself in a fighting stance, waving them
in with my leading hand. The results were memorable.
They all
launched towards the glass slider and the moment they hit my invisible barrier
each vampire burst into a ball of flame. The roar of fire drowned out their
screams, but I heard them and the dark part of my soul reveled in it.
Valerie let out
a high pitched laugh and I glanced back at her, smiling.
She met my gaze
with a measure of awe. “The only one I ever saw do something that impressive
was Michael.”
Being compared
to an archangel was humbling and I glanced outside at the black dust spinning
on the wind. “I’m not an angel.”
“Oh, I gathered
that,” she said and stepped away.
I turned towards
her. “What do you mean by that?”
“You’re more
recent activities?”
I shoved my
hands into my pockets and stared at the floor, shamed by the fact she was privy
to my more decadent actions. Instead of apologizing, I lifted my gaze to hers,
studying the memories of her past, especially the times after the more
traumatic events. Naomi was right about one thing. The girl never freaked out.
Ever.
And therein lay
the challenge.
I let a grin
slowly surface and narrowed my eyes, stepping closer. “So, you want to try out
some of those ‘activities’ with me?”
She laughed. The
kind of laugh that bruised a man’s ego and when she went into the gale realm, I
crossed my arms, my good humor turning sourer by the second.

Once Fallen - The Remarkable Life of Zach Wiche Continued Book One
If you've been reading the Claire Wiche Chronicles, this new book by Cate Dean is a must read. If you haven't been reading them, and like angels, witches, ghosts, genies, murder and just generally odd people... I suggest you start the series. It has it all.
This book continues the story of Zach, and has a lot of the characters from the original series with the addition of some new ones. Ms. Dean has the ability to bring her characters to life and put the reader in the story. Being able to bring the reader to suspend disbelief for the entire book is a skill, and Ms. Dean has it.

Sacrifice Me and Death's Awakening by Sarra Cannon
I got so busy I neglected to update one of my favorite authors... sincere apologies for the delay, Ms. Cannon!
Sacrifice Me: Complete Season 1
Boxed set of short stories that will have you wanting more and more!
Extending the world of demons created in The Peachville Series, Sacrifice Me is an adult paranormal series. Nicely blended with Peachville. Couldn't put it down.
Death's Awakening: Eternal sorrows Book 1
A page turner about the apocalypse, magic, and zombies - who wouldn't love this? A must read, as is every Sarra Cannon book.

Wild Magic by Madeline Freeman
Nicely done
Madeline Freeman’s book Wild
Magic left me wanting to know more about this place and these people. I
hadn’t read the preceding book, Crystal Magic, but make no mistake, I will be
reading that one and all the rest of her stories.
Raven Heart
Game On!
And so we continue. I found this book to be a fast-paced
page-turner that was difficult to put down. As in J.E. Taylor’s other books,
the writing is descriptive, and full. I care for the actors in these stories,
and am ready for the next even as I finish the one I’m on.
What amazing thoughts must be in Ms. Taylor's head, just waiting to fall onto the page! Can't wait for more.
Well done, Ms. Taylor, well done.

Throwing Clay Shadows by Thea Atkinson
This story is so compelling, it’s almost impossible to put
down. Ms. Atkinson has touched my heart with the players and the situation. The
pain and fear Maggie lives with is so clear I was able to see in my mind’s eye the little girl and her life.
Really well done, Thea Atkinson, I recommend this book to
any adult.

Origins of a D-List Supervillain
Origins of a D-List Supervillain is the prequel to
Confessions of a D-List Supervillain. Explaining how it all began. Written from
the viewpoint of the villain, this story is filled with non-stop action, rarely
allowing the villain to completely win, and is refreshingly different. Mr. Bernheimer
has brought these characters to life; and I liked reading about the mechanical
Super rather than the ‘born that way’ kind. Or, in this case the MechaniCal Super.
Jim Bernheimer is another on my ‘get everything he writes’ list of
authors. I’ve edited three books from three of his series, Spirals of Destiny, Dead Eye:
Pennies for the Ferryman, and Origins of a D-List Supervillain. I
don’t even have words (something I am rarely without) to describe how diverse
these stories are, and how original. So original, that I’ve purchased each of
the next in line for these three.

Saving Grace by J.E. Taylor
The story of the Ryan family continues in this book.
Seamlessly joining information from a vast number of other related stories, the
flow of the words while reading is uninterrupted by the reader wondering—what
the heck is going on?—neither does the reader become bored with too many
reminders of what went on before.
Love the series, love that this story continues to grow
multi-dimensionally. Highly recommend this book to all.

Rider: Spirals of Destiny Book One by Jim Bernheimer
Loved it. This story is so well written that I was
completely wrapped up in what was going on. Difficult to put down, I am looking
forward to adding this book to my to-be-read-over-and-over-again list.
The
descriptions of places are clear enough to visualize, the characters are
fleshed enough to love or hate them, or both at the same time.
I’m happy that this is a series, because I loved it and can’t
wait to read more about Majherri and Kayleigh. Very well done, Mr. Bernheimer!
First Breath: Love in Time Book Two by Cate Dean
The second installment of the Love in Time series delivers.
One of the best things about Cate Dean is that her books always leave you
wanting to read more about these characters, but they don’t leave you with an
‘arrrrgh’ feeling of being dropped flat.
Once again this is a can’t-stop-until-it’s-done kind of book. The book is fast paced, intense and I can’t wait for more!
Where Forever Lies by Tara Neideffer
I enjoyed this story. It's about a young woman, Paige, trying to deal with the stresses that come with being a single, working mom. Learning how to deal with the deaths of people close to her, and trying to push her fears aside in order to allow herself the opportunity for love.
The story flowed nicely, the characters were real, and most people can relate to the problems faced. Nicely done Ms. Neideffer.

Fourteen Days by Kate Hawkings
What a well written book! The action was non-stop, the
story-line was innovative and I can’t wait to know what happens next.
Katherine Hawkings has done an amazing job of making this
book as independent of the first as possible. I read this book before I read
the first one, and didn’t realize there was a first one! The characters are
well developed; the surroundings are described but not endlessly detailed to
the point of boredom. No boredom anywhere near this story!
Loved it! If you like this genre, you will love this author!
I would recommend reading The Sphinx Project first, simply to give even more
depth to Fourteen Days.
Theta Waves by Thea Atkinson
Oh, my gosh! This story is so nothing like I thought it was! This book is episodes one through three; I’ve read all of the episodes, one through five, and feel like I’ve been blindfolded and spun! ARRGH!
This is truly an original story! So thought provoking that I think about it even after I've finished it. The characters are so well written and dimensional that I'm constantly changing my mind about whether they are good guys or bad guys! This is not confusion, this is being led down a path with bunches of twists and turns!
I found myself at the end of the book before I realized it.
It was difficult to put down, and I only wanted more when it was over. I feel
like I’ve experienced all that Theda has gone through, and now I’m exhausted!
Truly a nice job, Ms. Atkinson.
Final Hours By Cate Dean
A sweet love story that happens to be wrapped around a time
travel –divert-future-disaster-by-changing-the-past story. Or rather, by NOT
changing the past.
The characters were interesting, the story-line good. The
ending seemed a bit up in the air, but a lot of series are like that. There is
not really a cliff-hanger, for which I am grateful, but there are a bunch of
unanswered questions that I seriously want to know the answers.
Looking forward to this series, I like the time travel
premise, and one can tell there is a much deeper understory going on!
AND it's only $.99 right now!
Nice job, Ms. Dean.

Playing Catch Up
Between the holidays, my surgery, hubby's surgery, editing, and regular life, I haven't taken the time to update this blog! So, here goes!
I loved it! In my opinion, this is not really a mystery, although there are some elements of mystery in it. Mostly, this is lighthearted fun. I really like the humor of Jos Van Brussel, and wonder where on earth does he get his ideas!
While there are a few questions I have from comments in previous books of the series, this was a great ending. It did leave room for spin-off books, and perhaps there will be some of the answers there.I rate the series high and I rate the author even higher. I will read anything by Cate Dean.
I love the Steve Williams series. This book is graphic in both sex scenes and the horror scenes, just a warning not a complaint-I read Stephen King, too. Throw in the terror of the occult/paranormal and you have an unforgettable story. J.E. Taylor has crafted a book that explains behaviors that you read about in the first books. Totally recommend the Steve Williams series.
Great conclusion to the series! Fast paced and action filled, there is no putting this one down until the end!
A beautiful ending that left this reader content. Having read the Steve Williams series, I was tickled to have Damian and Naomi meet up with said detective!
Rather than recommending a single book, I must recommend an author – J.E. Taylor is a name worth passing on as recommendation for any of her books!
I really loved this series. I think that each book of the series was better than the last. The characters were people I cared for—some more than others!—and knowing this is the end has saddened me. Thea Atkinson is a writer that I will recommend to many others.

Second in the series, this book continues with Alaysha trying to find out more about herself and her roots. The characters are more developed and the world that Thea Atkinson has created is very original. Couldn't wait to get my hands on the next!
This series just gets better with each book that comes out. Characterization stays true, we learn more about the world in general and each book causes me to read faster and faster. I'm left waiting for the next! Outstanding job, Thea Atkinson!
