Services and Rates

There is a multitude of descriptions for what editing and proofreading mean. Each person seems to have a different view of the process. Here are the terms I use and the services I offer:

Proofreading  -  Cost  $3.50 per thousand words
There will be a $30.00 minimum fee for a MS 10,000 words or less.

v  Correcting errors in spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

v  Correcting incorrect word usage (such as the use of accept and except).

v  Ensuring consistency in spelling, hyphenation, numerals, fonts, and capitalization.

v  Adding punctuation in order to eliminate confusion and to improve readability.

Copy Editing  -  Cost $5.50 per thousand words

v  Proofreading services.

v  Checking for consistency in descriptions.

v  Improving the flow of text rather than simply ensuring correct usage and grammar.

v  Moving sentences to improve readability.

v  Offering alternatives, rather than simply flagging problems.

v  Watching for over-used vocabulary, offering alternatives that improve the message while retaining the style of speech.

During edits I will read the book through at least twice so the turnaround time for these services will be 7 to 14 business days, depending upon the length of the book.

I am offering  a general formatting service for an additional $35.00 fee. By general formatting, I mean formatting the Word .doc or .docx so that it can be saved easily to an html after the changes have been accepted or rejected—putting in page breaks at the end of chapters, setting up paragraphs, removing tabs, etc.

I edit in a wide range of genres; generally speaking, if you send it I'll edit it!
