Megan Duncan - Falling From Eternity

This story is so unlike Duncan’s other paranormal stories, and begins to show her range of writing. It is also different from other love stories that I have read in that, while there is indeed love and romance, what I take away from it is a sadness that hints of possible redemption and retribution. This book could be a stand-alone, however, it leaves me hoping there will be a sequel or a series, something that will allow Will and Autumn to experience the happy ever after that the reader has come to wish for the two. I recommend this book for its readability, story-line and character development. Megan Duncan is a very talented writer.

Cro Magnon 25,000 BP

"Cro Magnon 25,000 BP" by Jack Rourk has gone live on Amazon for the Kindle! This is a story of a young girl who comes home from gathering food only to find her family and tribe killed. Knowing she has to leave, remembering stories of a shaman from a great tribe to the west, Elya sets out to find the tribe. This journey changed her life forever. I was totally fascinated by this story, and pleased with the extensive research that must have gone into the book. The story captures you, and gives you a look into a life that is difficult to imagine on your own.

Happy Dance!

So Happy!! It took almost a week, but I got a new router and now I have internet again!! I hadn't realized that I would feel this paralyzed by not having internet to my computer. Thank goodness for smart phones...at least I wasn't completely cut off!

Spending Christmas with the grandkids is totally exciting...spending it in sunshine and warm is almost as exciting! I'll be back to work after the first of January and I'm looking forward to that, too. :O)

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Happy New Year, and merry and happy to all I might have missed.

Reading for fun!

I am so addicted to reading! Even when I take a few days off I'm unable to stop reading. Having edited Cate Dean's "A Gathering of Angels" and "Carry on Wayward Son", books two and three of the "Claire Wiche Chronicles", I was enamoured with the story. Finding some free time, I pounced on the first of the series "Rest for the Wicked" and finished it this morning. Oh. My. Gosh. I loved it so much, and it reminded me of how much I loved the other two, now I'm going to spend the rest of my free time re-reading numbers two and three! Thanks so much, Cate, for being the fabulous writer you are...and, by the way, I want more. :O)

Hugh Howey

When I think of science fiction, I think of Jack Chalker, Andre Norton, Ann McCaffery, Issac Asimov, Mercedes Lackey to name a few. Huge fan of those authors, collected all their books. I am now a fan of Hugh Howey.

For someone who has been reading science fiction since the '70s, it has been a challenge to find someone (other than the above mentioned) who is able to pull me into a world thoroughly enough to actually read 6 of their books! In a row! In fact, I do believe that Hugh Howey is the first since then!

For those who project themselves into the world built by authors, the Wool series (or Silo series) is perfect. During the read (one right after another) I was living in the silo while reading and when I wasn't reading I was thinking of the dynamics of the characters, mechanics of living there, and impossibility of something like that actually working. To me, that is the sign of a great writer.

This author is a must read, I don't care what he writes, you must read it.

Chasing Shadows

I read S.H. Kolee's first in this series, "Seeing Shadows", and couldn't wait for the second one! I was lucky enough to edit the second of that series - "Chasing Shadows". What a fun read!

Totally didn't expect the ending! Now I'm going to be on the edge of my seat until the next book comes out! The fact that I really don't care for a lot of Simon's behavior simply means that S.H. Kolee got it right with describing characters! When I have an opinion on the type of person a character is that means I'm totally in the story. I was in there for the whole edge-of-the-chair, couldn't-put-it-down story!
